Story
My 3 year old son Daniel has severe haemophilia A, a rare bleeding disorder in which the blood doesn't clot in the typical way because it does not have enough blood clotting proteins (clotting factors). If you have haemophilia you might bleed for a longer time after an injury than you would if your blood clotted properly.
Haemophilia makes daily life more anxious for the suffer and for the family, with the constant worry that a small inconspicuous injury could result in a significant bleed.
Thanks to a weekly injection of a prophylactic medication called Hemlibra, Daniel's clotting levels are raised to up to 15% of normal, without it he has less than 1% normal.
We are blessed to have the medical support and support of family and friends and that of the Haemophilia Northern Ireland (HNI) charity.
The HNI charity provide information, education and support for those affected by haemophilia and other bleeding disorders in Northern Ireland and they have greatly supported us since Daniel's diagnosis when he was 9 months old.
This month I am aiming to do a cold water bath every day in February to raise awareness of haemophilia and to fundraise for HNI. Thank you for supporting me in this challenge.
