Morag’s fundraiser to attempt to swim the 11 miles of Loch Arkaig for the Woodland Trust

Morag Hughes is raising money for Woodland Trust
The Woodland Trust is the UK's leading woodland conservation charity who creates, protects and cares for woodland across the UK. We are working hard to create a UK rich in native woods and trees, for people and wildlife. But we can't do this alone. We can't achieve our vision without you.

Story

Loch Arkaig Swim Completed on Sunday 17th August.

Loch Arkaig is listed as being approximately 12 miles long. Given the shallows at either end I reckon I roughly swam more than 11 and a half miles. The weather was fantastic. The swim went smoothly though there were some prolonged icy stretches where the burns entered the loch and other cold currents from time to time. The highlight of the swim (apart from completing it) was seeing an osprey flying overhead when I turned my head to breathe. It was in view for four breaths. I felt so lucky to have spotted it. A huge thanks to my kayakers and all the others who supported me on the day and to all the people who generously sponsored me. Please share this page among you friends if you like.
