Why I'm raising money?
I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram in June 2024. I received excellent treatment from the Pink Rose Suite at Grimsby hospital, plus my radiotherapy at Castle Hill Hospital. I want to raise money for the Pink Rose Suite as a thank you for my treatment. There are several things that they need which can't be routinely provided without donations.
What am I doing?
So I decided to walk from Castle Hill Hospital to Grimsby Hospital to raise money. I'll use prettier/quieter routes rather than main roads. The overall walk will be at least 50 miles - the actual route may vary according to weather but will all be recorded on a fitness tracker.
Raising awareness too...
Through publicising the walk, I also want to raise awareness of the importance of going for a mammogram when called. Sadly, so many just don't turn up, but having a mammogram can save your life! So if you're called, go!
A third reason for walking is that I want to raise awareness of the importance of weight-bearing exercise. My ongoing treatment means that I could experience lower calcium levels in my bones - but this happens to many as we age anyway. This is not just for women but everyone. Weightbearing exercise can help prevent this calcium loss.
Walk the walk!
These 3 reasons are why I will be walking at least 50miles for the Pink Rose Suite, in September/October this year - the date has been picked to tie in with Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
I'll try to post pictures or accounts of my training walks, so you know how I'm doing, as well as accounts of each day during the walk.
