Robin Hood Half Marathon 2025 · 28 September 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

On Sunday 28th September 2025, Nottingham Hospitals Charity supporters will take on the Robin Hood Half & Mini Marathon, raising funds for the areas in our hospitals that are close to their hearts.

Story

Please help us raise as much money as we can to go to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) QMC, they saved our boys life.

We will never be able to repay them. We want to give something back to the unit, so they can help other babies and families through hard times.

Our story:

After multiple complication on the 6th December, our little miracle Mason was born at 13:46pm. Our dreams had come true of finally being a little family.

When Mason was born, unfortunately, he was struggling to breathe, the hospital then discovered that his windpipe and food pipe were connected known as Trancheoesophageal fistula. This is an abnormality during pregnancy and happens to 1 in 3500 babies.

This was very unexpected for us as nothing was picked up throughout the pregnancy. As time went on waiting to be reunited with our little boy, things took a turn for the worst. The consultant advised he had to perform a procedure to put a breathing tube in to help Mason. However, they advised us if this couldn’t be done, we needed to prepare for the worst as this was life threatening for him.

At this point our world came crumbling down and we just couldn’t process what we were being told. No family should be told to prepare to say goodbye to their baby.

After what felt like the longest wait in the world, they informed us the procedure had been successful. Mason was then transferred to QMC, to go to theatre less than 24 hours old.

Mason was in NICU for over 7 weeks, it was a very heartbreaking, anxious time for us all just praying he would continue to fight. The hours and days merged into one. However, he continued to amaze us daily, and all we could do was be at his beside every second.

Therefore, Matt (Dad) and Lewis (Uncle) are doing the Nottingham Hospitals Charity half marathon to raise as much money as we can to help other families going through similar experiences.

Please donate what you can to a great cause! This would mean the world to us, we want to give back to them everything they gave us which is OUR BEAUTIFUL BABY BOY- Mason Lewis💙
