Story
As I celebrate my 33rd birthday this September 6th, I’m reflecting on my family’s journey and the resilience of Sri Lanka’s Tamil communities.
My parents, refugees who fled the civil war in Sri Lanka, brought us to Switzerland where I was born, and later to Canada at age 5 in pursuit of a better life. While I’ve been fortunate to grow up here, my heart remains with the families across Sri Lanka’s rural regions—still rebuilding after the war, the 2004 tsunami, and recent economic hardships.
Instead of birthday gifts, I’m inviting my friends and family to join me in giving back through the Aram Initiative 2025 Fundraiser, partnered with Tamil Aid (Charity No: 1108660). This inspiring effort reaches several locations across Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces, supporting children in orphanages, special-needs schools, and hospitals with education, health checks, and essential supplies.
Your donation will fund school bags filled with books, stationery, and clothes (£12 each), plus programs like English classes, anti-bullying workshops, sports, and music to empower kids for a brighter future.
Every penny goes directly to those in need, as the Aram team self-funds all travel and accommodation, ensuring 100% transparency.
I am not traveling to Sri Lanka, but I’m committed to making a difference from Canada.
By donating, you’re helping me honor my roots and support children across war-affected communities—showing them their dreams matter.
Together, we can foster hope and opportunity.
Thank you for making my 33rd birthday a celebration of giving back!
