Mathewson's fundraiser for The Boom Foundation

Mathewson Chemist is raising money for The Boom Foundation
In memory of Sophie Mathewson

5000 miles in a month walk

In April 2013, The Boom Foundation was set up and it remains the only charity in NI dedicated to supporting patients suffering from sarcoma, a rare form of bone and soft tissue cancer. 50% of funds raised go to Sarcoma UK towards vital research; the rest supports those affected by sarcoma in NI.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

The staff of Mathewson Chemist invite your support.

In July we’re planning a month-long walking challenge in aid of Sophie’s Clinical Nurse Specialist a cause very close to our hearts. We are aiming for a collective 5000 miles!

Please support this very worthy cause, either through the Just Giving link or in store.

Allen and Katy Mathewson's daughter Sophie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer at the age of 16 in June 2019. Her clinical nurse at the time provided valuable support to Sophie and the family. Sophie adored all her nurses and they became her second family.

After several major surgeries and 6 months of chemotherapy treatment Sophie sadly passed away on the 16th April 2021. Allen, Katy and Diana (Sophie’s twin sister) have decided to sponsor another desperately needed second clinical nurse specialist in Sophie’s memory and are fundraising to support this post. Gemma Bowman is the first Sophie’s Clinical Nurse Specialist and commenced her post in February 2025 at Musgrave Park Hospital and the Cancer Centre Belfast.
