Story
Hello,
My name is Matic, I’m a 22-year-old student from Slovenia and someone who deeply believes in growth, challenge, and becoming a better version of yourself.
Earlier this year, I discovered a Japanese concept called Misogi. It means choosing one challenge each year that defines that entire year. Something that pushes you far outside your comfort zone and becomes a story you will remember for the rest of your life.
There are only two rules:
there must be a real 50/50 chance that you might fail,
and you must not die.
For a long time, I struggled to decide what my Misogi would be. Then life gave me an unexpected opportunity.
This autumn I will be moving to Berlin as an exchange student to study mathematics and economics. Around that time I discovered the Berlin Marathon, one of the most famous races in the world. When I looked into it, I quickly learned that all the regular entries were already gone.
But then I discovered something even better.
There was another way to take part: running for a charity and raising money for a meaningful cause.
In that moment my Misogi became clear.
Running a marathon is already a challenge. Preparing for it will take months of discipline, training, and pushing through difficult days. But combining that challenge with helping children who truly need support makes the journey far more meaningful.
I believe that in a world where many decisions are made out of fear or comfort, real strength comes from courageous and generous actions. Aiming high and setting your goals higher than you "should" is something I believe in.
And if your goal helps someone else, and that someone else is a person in need, that is beyond meaningful for me. That is why I chose to run the Berlin Marathon for Street Child, an organization that works to protect vulnerable children and help them access education and a better future.
For me, this challenge represents three things I deeply believe in:
• Supporting children who need help
• Movement and the power of sport
• Selflessness and doing something bigger than yourself
Over the next months I will be training hard, helping people overcome their limits and sharing the journey. My goal is to raise £2000, which I believe can make a difference.
If my story resonates with you, I would be incredibly grateful for your support. Even a small donation can help change a child’s life.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
Matic
