I've volunteered for Literacy Pirates since 2020, in both the Hackney and Haringey ships, and virtually. I've seen first hand how brilliant the team are at not only helping children with the literacy, but also with their confidence and perseverance. It's really special to see the young pirates become authors, presenters, actors and journalists over the year, and I'm happy to be able to help raise money so they can keep on doing their amazing work. The Literacy Pirates run engaging and creative programmes in order to let children reinvent themselves as successful learners. The impact will last throughout their time at school and beyond.

They are focused on the enjoyment of reading and writing and building their confidence as readers and writers, allowing children to transfer their new skills into the classroom. They publish and celebrate children's work throughout their programme, giving them the opportunity to become book authors, journalists and film writers and a lasting sense of achievement.
