London Marathon 2026 · 26 April 2026 · Start fundraising for this event

Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

Every Step for Someone Who Can’t

Howzit!

We’re Matt and Jono, two brothers from Zimbabwe, now living in the UK and we are both running London Marathon next year. But before we do so we’re taking on a challenge that has a close place in our hearts.

From the 12th – 16th of November, we’ll be running five marathons in five days to raise funds and awareness for Spinal Research.

This cause means a lot to us. A close family friend back home in Zimbabwe suffered a devastating motorbike accident, leaving him with life-changing spinal injuries. Watching his strength, resilience, and determination has inspired us both. It opened our eyes to what people with spinal cord injuries face every single day and made us want to do something meaningful to help.

Running five marathons in five days will be brutal, both physically and mentally. But we’ll only be pushing ourselves for a few days while those living with spinal injuries face immense challenges every day of their lives. This is our way of standing beside them, one step, one mile and one marathon at a time.

We’ll be running across various areas of the UK:

• Day 1: Along the Brighton coastline

• Day 2: Through the Cotswolds’

• Day 3: Across the heart of London

• Day 4: A park-to-park route (London)

• Day 5: Finishing strong in Gloucestershire at Painswick Cricket Club

Each day, we’ll dedicate our run to someone whose life has been changed by a spinal injury. We will be sharing their story, their courage, and their fight. One of those days will be for our friend in Zimbabwe.

This isn’t just about running.

It’s about hope, purpose, and movement and for those who can’t.

Our goal is to raise £5,000 before the London Marathon in April 2026, funding life-changing spinal cord research and supporting recovery for thousands of people.

We’d love your support, whether that’s joining us for a few miles, cheering us on, sharing our story, or donating to Spinal Research.

Every step we take is for someone who can’t and with your help, we can make those steps count.

Together, let’s prove what’s possible when we move with meaning. Together, we can cure paralysis.
