Growing Well is a mental health charity, which delivers a professional support service to individuals and communities across Cumbria. Based from three commercial scale fruit and vegetable growing sites; near Kendal, in West Cumbria and at Tebay Services.

Story

As much as it shouldn’t be, Mental Health, particularly Male mental health, is still a bit of a stigma in 2026.

This is something that I have struggled with for the majority of my adult life, and finding the balance and support network is really hard. I’ve seen some dark times, but with the support of my friends and family I’ve been able to come out of the other side, battered and bruised, but stronger. Others unfortunately don’t have that luxury..

On Thursday 14 May 2026, during Mental Health Awareness Week, Westmorland Family are organising a 21 mile ‘Miles for Minds’ sponsored walk from Tebay Services to Rheged. This walk on waymarked footpaths is for Westmorland colleagues, suppliers, friends and Growing Well supporters. Our aim is to raise £20,000 to support the core costs of Growing Well (Tebay) which provides a 12 month programme of mental health support to over 100 people each year, with an amazing 68% success rate to full recovery.

This is going to be a big challenge for me. I’ve recently been through some tough times and had to really find myself in order to build myself back up, and this is a worthy challenge in terms of my weight, giving back to a worthy cause, and developing my own mental health and resilience
