Riding Across America for Rockinghorse Children's Charity

Matt Garman is raising money for Rockinghorse Children's Charity

Ride Across America · 26 September 2025

Rockinghorse is a Brighton-based charity which has been supporting children for over 50 years. It was set up in 1967 by Dr Trevor Mann to improve healthcare services for sick children and babies. The charity fundraises for items for every child's treatment, from toys to life-saving equipment.

Story

After a 2.5 year break after rowing across the Atlantic Ocean, I’m proud and excited to announce my new challenge - to cycle 3048 miles from San Diego, California on the Pacific coast, all the way across the USA to St Augustine in Florida on the Atlantic coast.

I shall be completing the adventure with my great friend and fellow Channel swimming team mate, David Cox.

We shall be leaving in late September, hoping to make the crossing by the end of October in temperatures that get close to 50 degrees celsius in the desert sections.

I am fundraising for Rockinghorse Children's Charity, a Brighton based charity which supports sick and disabled children across Sussex.

They support babies, children and young people, along with their families, at The Royal Alex Children’s Hospital and The Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton and all of the specialist children’s wards and baby units throughout Sussex.
