Cycle for Michael Mental Health Foundation Matt Hine

Matt Hine is raising money for Mental Health Foundation

Team: Cycle for Michael JOGLE 8 days - September 13th-20th 2026

JOGLE Cycle 2026 · 13 September 2026

The Mental Health Foundation believe no-one living in the UK should be deprived of the opportunity for good mental health because of who they are, the community they come from or where they live. We’re developing better ways to support good mental health in every community.

Story

That’s me and my old man at the bottom of this page (I put it at the bottom so you have to read everything) Michael Alexander Hine, a kind, caring and generous gentleman.

Dad has struggled for many years with mental health issues (Bipolar Disorder) and more recently an imminent diagnosis of dementia.

Dad has been in out and of psychiatric hospitals from Redruth in Cornwall over to Stevenage just north of London as there are very often no beds anyway near home.

As of today, 27/11/25 he is currently on a Psychiatric intensive care unit in Weston Super Mare as there are no suitable beds closer to home for him. Real time 05/01/26 he is back in Redruth Longreach hospital, closer to home.

I find myself on this emotional rollercoaster of mixed feelings with little to no choice. But I do have a choice, to do something positive and raise money for dad and other’s like him.

That is why I decided we were going to do ‘Cycle for Michael’, John O Groats to Land’s End in 8 days in Sept 2026 (13th-20th). For context I have never ridden a road bike before so this should be interesting, and anyone that knows me well knows my track record isn’t great on a mountain bike 😉.

I am raising money for The Mental Health Foundation which is one of the main UK charities for everyone’s mental health (Donations on this Just Giving page).

We are also raising money for The Alzehimers Society - The leading UK charity for dementia care and research. It funds research into all types of dementia and provides support and information to individuals and families. You can donate to this charity on one of the other riders pages’

Some other riders in the group are riding for charities closer to their hearts so take a look and see if something resonates with you.

If you can spare any money that would be awesome

All the best

Love
