So ... why am I running the marathon this year?
Well, a little over a year ago, my wife Kirsten started to experience severe headaches and sudden loss of vision, which was eventually diagnosed as an optic neuritis. After months of various tests, a CT scan showed a number of lesions both in her brain and spinal cord and she was diagnosed with relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis.
Kirsten has faced her diagnosis with a minimum of fuss and we are keenly aware that it could be so much worse, having recently lost my sister to cancer at a young age. Our focus is now very much on enjoying life and pursuing our ambition to travel, but perhaps a little sooner than we had planned.
For those who haven't met Kirsten, she has always been - and continues to be - incredibly fit and active, completing multiple long distance triathlons. In fact, she was the driving force that got me off the couch in 2018 to complete our first iron man together. Running the London Marathon to raise money for the MS Society feels like a fitting way to pay tribute to the amazing woman I married.
Over 130,000 people in the UK live with MS, and your donations will help fund pioneering research which will have a real impact on all those affected.
Thanks so much for your support!
