Dreamflight gives children with serious illnesses or disabilities the holiday of a lifetime – from magical trips to Orlando to UK adventures that build confidence and independence. These experiences help children grow, feel celebrated, and discover their potential.

Story

Hello everyone!

Well it looks like I never learnt my lesson from my last fundraiser for Dreamflight where I was coerced into swimming from Alcatraz in the freezing cold San Francisco bay - so it seems only logical to want to do something equally as horrendous…..

This time, to raise money for this amazing cause I’ve agreed to climb the small hill in Japan that is Mount Fuji, 100km southwest of Tokyo. It’s only 3 times the height of Ben Nevis (at an impressive 3776m, or 12,338ft) and an active volcano, so should be an easy walk…right?

The reason for doing this again is to raise money for the amazing charity called Dreamflight. Dreamflight is a UK charity that takes children with a serious illness or disability on their holiday of a lifetime to Orlando. The experience can be life-changing and gives young people an opportunity to do something that medicine can’t: discover independence, confidence and a new outlook.

It gives them an amazing, unforgettable experience whilst in the care of trained carers and medical staff for the entire trip. At the same time it gives their families some well deserved respite. They have their own, chartered aircraft to take them on this amazing experience.

On my last event, during the swim, I remember being with a woman who’s son was a Dreamflight child several years ago who is sadly no longer with us. She fundraises every year because of the experience it gave her son and wants to continue supporting other children to have the same opportunity.

I understand pennies are tight, but if you could spare any amount to help me reach my target for this event, even if it’s just the cost of a Costa Coffee - it would be much appreciated. For what it’s worth I’ll probably be spending more on a nice big coat, some proper walking boots and plasters for the amount of blisters I’m likely going to get on the day!

Thanks everyone for whatever you can donate - you’ll at least get a cheesy photo of me from the summit as a prize!

Matt
