Hi, I’m Matt.

On 31st May, my best friend and chaotic little companion Jurgen Flopp passed away unexpectedly. He was more than just a rabbit — he was a wild little soul who kept me going through some of my darkest days. For two years, while struggling with depression, Jurgen gave me routine, laughter, and unconditional comfort. Since his sudden passing, I’ve faced a choice: collapse back into that darkness or honour the joy and healing he brought into my life.

So I’m walk/running — 500,000 steps in June — as a way of celebrating the impact this weird, wonderful creature had on me, and to raise money for Shrewsbury Rabbit Rescue, who do incredible work saving rabbits like Jurgen every day.

I’m also using this challenge to help push myself back toward a life I’d paused: ultra-marathon running. Step by step, I’m reclaiming that passion, turning grief into momentum.

Every penny raised goes directly to Shrewsbury Rabbit Rescue, helping give more rabbits a second chance — just like Jurgen gave me.
