Story

Hey!

Thanks for visiting my page!

On 23rd May 2026, I’ll be taking on the London to Brighton 100km Ultra Marathon — a brutal route with over 5,000ft of climbs and enough distance to push anyone to their limits.

This will be my second attempt at conquering 100km.

Back in September 2024, I made it to 82km before I had to withdraw. A misaligned pelvis, knee ligament damage, and a handful of other injuries forced me to stop. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made — months of training, determination, and hope ending just shy of the finish. That moment has stayed with me.

But this time, it’s personal. This time, it’s redemption.

My Dad was battling Vascular Dementia, and watching the progression of this disease was devastating. The confusion, the memory loss, the gradual loss of independence, it’s a kind of suffering that no physical injury can compare to. Every day brought new challenges, not just for him, but for everyone who loved him.

Sadly, he passed away over the weekend. While this has been an incredibly difficult time for our family, it has strengthened my determination to complete this 100k in his memory and to raise money to help others affected by this cruel disease.

That’s why I’m running for Dementia UK. Their specialist Admiral Nurses provide essential support to families like mine, helping them navigate the emotional and practical realities of dementia with compassion and expertise.

So yes, this ultra will hurt. There will be moments of doubt, exhaustion, and pain. But none of it comes close to what people living with dementia — and their families — face every single day.

If you’re able to donate, share, or simply cheer me on, it truly means the world. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps Dementia UK continue supporting families who desperately need it.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support.

Much love,

Matty x
