Story
Please join us in remembering our dear friend and colleague Matthew Bonye, who very sadly passed away on 23 October 2024 after a short illness. Matthew had been bravely adjusting to a significant change in his health, and his colleagues in Real Estate were confident he would recover and return to us soon. His sudden death left us all in shock and mourning.
Matthew was a partner and the head of our Real Estate Dispute Resolution practice in London. Described as a "legend in his field" in legal directories, he was inducted into the Legal 500 "Hall of Fame" and was once named the Times Lawyer of the Week. His remarkable career spanned 32 years, during which he worked on landmark cases such as the London Eye, Tate Modern, and the Guinness/Park Royal dispute. Matt's contributions to the real estate sector were immense and far-reaching.
Beyond his professional achievements, Matthew was deeply committed to pro bono work. He led numerous pro bono cases, most recently securing a successful settlement for a vulnerable client who had endured years of coercive and controlling behaviour. Matthew's dedication to his pro bono clients was unwavering, treating them with the same respect and commitment as his commercial clients.
Matthew was not only a brilliant lawyer but also a cherished member of our team. In memory of Matthew and his enduring legacy, our Real Estate team will be participating in the JLL Property Triathlon 2025 on Friday, 27 June. Matthew regularly participated in this event, and we believe this is a fitting tribute to his memory.
To honour Matthew's passion for making a positive impact, we have created a JustGiving fundraiser for WaterAid, Matthew's family's chosen charity. We invite you to support this cause, which aligns with Matthew's values and dedication to helping others. Your contributions will help provide clean water and sanitation to communities in need, continuing the legacy of generosity and commitment that Matthew embodied.
Please join us in supporting WaterAid and celebrating Matthew's life by donating to our fundraiser. Together, we can make a difference in his memory.
Thank you for your support.
