Story
Three years ago, I signed up for the Arctic Challenge 2026, an incredible opportunity to push my limits and support a vital cause. Unfortunately, just a week before our journey to Arctic Sweden, I received the life-altering news of a blood cancer diagnosis. I had to pull out of the trip, the challenge, and my fundraising target. However, I am thrilled to share that I am now well enough to take on this exciting challenge once again!
The Arctic Challenge is set for January 16, 2026, and it promises to be an inspiring wilderness endurance event. Over a long weekend, we will embark on a 35km dog sled race, a 20km Nordic ski trek, ice fishing, orienteering, and much more—all in support of the National Literacy Trust. The Arctic is both beautiful and harsh; temperatures can plummet to -35°C and often feel even colder. With only five to six hours of twilight each day during this time of year, many activities will take place in near darkness—adding an extra layer of challenge!
We will be staying in a cozy wilderness lodge illuminated by candlelight and warmed by a wood-burning stove. The cause behind this adventure is close to my heart: children from the poorest backgrounds should not have their potential cut short before their lives have truly begun. On average, these children start school 19 months behind their more privileged peers.
The money raised through this event will help transform the life stories of children in some of the most disadvantaged areas of the UK. Children without expected literacy skills face significant hurdles throughout their lives: they are five times more likely to fail to meet expected standards in English at age 11; four times more likely to be unemployed at age 34; and three times more likely to experience mental health problems as adults.
I am aiming to raise £3,500 for this important cause through my participation in the Arctic Challenge 2026. Your support can make a real difference! Thank you for believing in me and joining me on this journey!
