Silk Road Mountain Race 2026 - an unsupported ultra-distance cycle race through Kyrgyzstan · 15 August 2026

Guernsey Chest and Heart is a charitable body which provides a free health screening service to the residents of the Bailiwick. It is not publicly funded and relies on donations to operate. Screenings and blood pressure checks are carried out at its Centre by qualified and experienced nurses.

Story

This August, I'm taking on the Silk Road Mountain Race, an unsupported ultra-distance cycling race through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan, to raise money for Guernsey Chest and Heart in memory of my dad, who passed away in May.

Dad dedicated more than 30 years to Guernsey Chest and Heart, first as its Honorary Medical Advisor and later as Chairman, a position he held for 10 years. In 2025, he was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to healthcare in Guernsey, recognising a lifetime of commitment to medicine and to the island of Guernsey and its community.

Guernsey Chest and Heart was incredibly important to Dad, and he gave a huge amount of his time, care and support to the charity over the years. Raising money to support its work feels like a particularly fitting way to remember him.

The Silk Road Mountain Race will take me across over 2000km of some of the most remote and challenging terrain in Kyrgyzstan, carrying everything I need on my bike and tackling high-altitude mountain passes along the way.

It's going to be a huge challenge, but I can't think of a better reason to take it on. You can also log in and track my progress at https://srmr2026.maprogress.com/

Any donation, however big or small, would mean an enormous amount. Thank you.
