Matthew's fundraiser for Broughton House Veteran Care Village - Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride

Matthew Cripps is raising money for Broughton House Veteran Care Village

Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride · 12 July 2026 ·

Founded in 1916, Broughton House supports those who’ve served in His Majesty’s Armed Forces and their families. We provide dedicated care; through our purpose-built home and wellbeing and welfare support; through our Armed Forces Support Hub.

Story

Hello, hello, I’m Matt – Head Chef at Broughton House Veteran Care Village.

And I’m taking part in the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride, cycling 60 miles to raise money for our veterans!

This challenge means a lot to me. Back when I was a teenager, I was in the RAF Cadets – I signed up to do basic training after leaving school, but the kitchen was my true calling.

While I may have opted for a career in food instead, it feels like I’ve come full circle by working in the kitchen to serve the veterans at Broughton House.

Being here gives you a lot of perspective. I talk to our residents all the time, and hear their stories. They’re heroes, but they’ve done enough. It’s our turn to give something back.

My granddad was a huge role model for me growing up; military through and through. He taught me respect is earned, and we owe a debt to everyone who has fought for our country. That’s why it’s not just the veterans at Broughton House we’re trying to help. We’re aiming to support ALL veterans through our Armed Forces Support Hub, which makes life after service more accommodating for our veterans by signposting to key services, combatting isolation with invites to our social events and more.

Every donation makes a big difference, so please give what you can and help us help our veterans, both at Broughton House and across Greater Manchester.

Thank you!
