At Target Ovarian Cancer, we target what’s important to stop ovarian cancer devastating lives. Stand together. Save lives.

Story

Hi, I’m Matt and on 7th April I will be running the 2024 Paris Marathon- raising money for Target Ovarian Cancer.

This is a charity close to my heart as in 2022, my Mum had major surgery to remove an ovarian cancer tumour. Luckily for her it was discovered at an early stage and post- surgery we received the fantastic news that she had been given the all- clear. Due to the cancer being identified at an early stage and the fantastic support she received from Target Ovarian Cancer- my Mum was one of the lucky ones. However, many women aren’t- with 11 women in the UK dying every day from Ovarian Cancer.

Target Ovarian Cancer work with GPs to raise awareness of symptoms to help women identify ovarian cancer at the earliest stage possible and offer amazing support to the women and families affected by it. They're helping to change the lives of women and I can’t wait to raise money to help them further as a thank you to them for the support they have given to my Mum!

I wanted to run a marathon as I have had health struggles of my own. In 2018, I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME), an illness that affected me significantly over a long period of time throughout my late teens and early adulthood. Activities such as playing 5- a- side football or a gym session would leave me bed- bound for multiple days after. I have worked hard to overcome the effects of the condition and I am now in a position where the condition hardly affects me anymore.

On April 7th, I am aiming for a sub- 4-hour marathon time. Considering that a year ago I couldn’t run more than 3km non- stop, this is something that I would be immensely proud of if I can achieve!!

I am logging all of my marathon training on Strava, so if you are interested in following my progress, please click HERE.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated!
