Original Mountain Marathon · 25 October 2025

Felix's family are so grateful to The Lily Foundation who are a genuine lifeline. The support they provide is truly transformational to families like theirs who are going through something inexplicable. Together lets help them make a difference.

Story

” Give us your fooking money “ Bob Geldof - Live Aid - 4th July 1985

Sadly I am not getting a load of my rock star mates who are all off their heads to play Wembley.

No I am doing the Original Mountain Marathon at the end of October in the Lake District. You run a marathon- camp - get up and run another. You have to carry everything with you. I am doing this because I am stupid and want to prove at 51 I can do this ( finger crossed I can ). If you sponsor me I will upload some photos and videos of me having an awful time.

Importantly I am also doing to for Felix and his parents.

My dear friend Jess (who I once ran the Seville marathon with) and her fiancee Joe have received the news all parents dread. Felix their beautiful son, was tragically diagnosed with Leigh’s Syndrome at just six months old. Felix lives with this extremely rare mitochondrial condition that affects his every day life. It’s a debilitating, life limiting disease of which there is currently no cure.

Every donation to the Lily Foundation brings us closer to better treatments, more research and hope for a brighter future. The charity have already been a huge comfort to the Jess and Joe providing invaluable help and continued support.

Every other day in the UK, a baby is born who may develop serious mitochondrial disease. The Lily Foundation was founded in 2007 by Liz Curtis in memory of her daughter Lily, who died from mito at just 8 months old. Finding little information or support to help her, Liz set out to provide answers for herself and others in her situation. The charity exists today to support affected patients and families, raise awareness of this little-known but incurable genetic condition and fund research into treatments and an eventual cure.
