Story
I have had the pleasure or working with Emma, CEO of I choose Freedom and have heard first hand how she and her team support people, who for no fault of their own, find themselves in incredibly difficult and challenging (often life threatening) situations as a consequence of domestic violence/abuse.
I stand side by side with Emma and her team and would like to ask you to support my adventure, by giving whatever you are able to this very worthy charity.
So.... what mad adventure will I be undertaking
This adventure begins in Canada, where Joe and I will begin cycling south on a route known as the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route! Our goal is to achieve 60 miles per day, every day for 45 days. We will take our own food, water, and shelter on our bikes and are likely to encounter bears (brown and black) as well as snakes and possibly tarantulas as we make our way south through Canada, then the USA. We complete our journey 2,700 miles later at the border of the USA and Mexico.
The Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) is Adventure Cycling’s premier off-pavement cycling route, crisscrossing the Continental Divide in southern Canada and the U.S. This route is defined by the word “remote.” Its remoteness equates with spectacular terrain and scenery. The entire route is basically dirt-road and mountain-pass riding every day. In total, it has over 200,000 feet of elevation gain. Nearly 2,100 miles of the route is composed of county, Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), and Canadian provincial unpaved roads. The remainder is 60 miles of singletrack trails and 950 miles of paved roads including close to 50 miles of paved bike paths.
I will have a satellite tracker with me, so if you're interested you'll be able to keep track of our progress on a daily basis. We plan to post updates daily. I'll post the link to the tracker here just before we start.
