Story
Hi everyone and welcome to my page!
Next April, I'll be running the London marathon for Time and Talents, a London-based charity that offers a range of services to combat isolation & increase physical and mental wellbeing.
Running for a charity that supports mental health is an issue that is dear to my heart. I have suffered from mental health challenges my entire life, and living in a country that undervalues the importance of mental health, and fails to provide adequate funding to treat those that suffer from it, I know first-hand how frustrating it can be to get the support you need.
Too many people suffer in silence, which is especially the case for men, who are often not encouraged to open up and talk about the way they feel. This issue holds an even greater significance for me this year, as I sadly lost a dear cousin, and one of my best friends, to suicide this summer. Although I can't do anything to turn back the clock and prevent him from taking his own life, I feel the least I can do is to dedicate this marathon to him, to run in his memory, and support a charity that works tirelessly to help those most in need and prevent mental illness from taking the lives of people young and old.
Below is a description of the charity and the work they do. Any donation you can spare would be gratefully received - please do support with whatever amount you are able to give. Every penny counts and is hugely appreciated. Thank you!
Based in the heart of Rotherhithe in South East London, Time & Talents provides vital support, fun and friendship to local kids, families and older people. We deeply value our community, and work hard to help everyone feel valued, connected and included.
By donating to the Time & Talents London Marathon 2024 team, you'll be enabling us to support local people, young and old, from the little ones who have fun digging and planting at our Little Bugs Nature Club, to the older adults who have made new friends at Pub Club or one of our walking groups. Every donation allows us to continue our work, whether matching volunteer befrienders with housebound older people, running our Stroke Club, or providing kids with fun activities, healthy food and opportunities to make new friends.
We spend every pound our Marathon team raises on fighting the isolation experienced by so many older people, and on supporting kids and families bearing the brunt of years of government cuts and reduced services.
