Matt’s fundraiser for Huntington's Disease Association

Matt Oxley is raising money for Huntington's Disease Association

100miles of Running in October

Huntington's Disease Association England and Wales exists to support anyone who is affected by Huntington's disease. It pursues the best possible care; provides training and advice to families and professionals; raises awareness, and promotes research towards better treatment and care.

Story

Those who know me will know that over the past couple of months I’ve been back on the fitness journey. Since the start of June, I’ve lost over 2.5 stone, been working hard in the gym and have even started doing the odd bit of running! 💪

I started all of this with one ambitious target in mind – to get myself into a position to take on the Leeds Half Marathon in 2027, while raising money for a charity that is very close to my heart – the Huntington’s Disease Association.

My younger brother, Michael, was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease early last year at the age of 39.

Huntington’s is a rare, inherited and currently incurable genetic brain disorder that progressively affects movement, thinking and behaviour. Seeing someone close to you face something like this gives you a very different perspective and is the reason I want to do something positive to help raise awareness and funds.

But rather than waiting until 2027 to start fundraising, I’ve decided to set myself a challenge this year…

🏃‍♂️ 100 MILES THROUGHOUT OCTOBER! 🏃‍♂️

That works out at an average of around 3.22 miles EVERY SINGLE DAY for 31 days! 😬

For someone who definitely wouldn’t have described himself as a runner a few months ago, this is going to be a serious challenge – but that’s exactly the point!

Every mile will be for Michael, everyone living with Huntington’s disease, and the families affected by it. 💙

If anyone would like to support me, I’d massively appreciate even the smallest donation. Every pound will help support the fantastic work of the Huntington’s Disease Association
