Story
Hi, I'm Matt.
I'm competing in my very first triathlon event this year in the hope to raise money and awareness for a cause very close to my heart. Ironman triathlons are amongst some of the hardest endurance events on the planet. This will be the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life, both the training leading up to it and the actual event itself. However this doesn't get close to the events my mum and family have had to endure over the last few years.
Ironman Copenhagen (Denmark) breakdown: https://www.ironman.com/im-copenhagen
Swim: 3.8km (2.4 miles)
Bike: 180km (112 miles)
Run: 43km (26.2 miles)
Total: 226km (140 miles) - Needs to be completed within 16 hours of starting at 6am.
I will be doing this to fundraise for a charity called Severn Hospice.
Who are they??
''Severn Hospice gives specialist care and support free of charge to families across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who are living with an incurable illness''.
WHY DO IT?!!
My mum has been fighting with cancer for many years now. The devastating news that it is now terminal hit myself and the family VERY hard. Only one word will describe the strength and resilience displayed by my mum over these years, WARRIOR. Her bubbly character even when faced with sheer adversity has been truly inspirational and has transformed my entire outlook on life.
Mum... this is for you.
F*** cancer.
