Story
Alzheimer’s is one of the most difficult challenges any family can face. It’s an illness that doesn’t only affect the person living with it, but also those around them. Watching someone gradually lose their memories, clarity, and sense of self is deeply painful. Alzheimer’s isn’t only about memory loss - it also affects behaviour, mood, and the ability to carry out everyday tasks, often transforming relationships in quiet but profound ways.
Raising awareness about this illness is vital. Understanding and knowledge are the first steps towards compassion and support. Too often, Alzheimer’s is underestimated or misunderstood, leaving those affected and their loved ones feeling isolated or stigmatised. By informing and engaging our communities, we can build an environment that is more empathetic and better prepared to meet these challenges.
This cause is deeply personal to me. It’s a way to honour someone who shaped my life and instilled in me the importance of family, patience, and kindness. Through her, I also learned to take pride in my Italian heritage - the traditions, the stories, and the sense of belonging that connect generations.
Talking about Alzheimer’s means giving voice to millions of quiet battles fought every day. Awareness is part of the fight — and by keeping the conversation alive, we keep alive the love, dignity, and humanity of those we cherish
