Story
I'm running the Great North Run for Iggy's Fund, a charity that has a very special meaning to me.
Iggy’s Fund was created in memory of Alan "Iggy", who was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour in 1999. Despite the devastating diagnosis, Iggy battled the tumour for an incredible 22 years, undergoing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and a number of trial treatments along the way.
During those 22 years, Iggy, his family and friends raised over £300,000 for brain tumour research through golf days, sponsored walks, charity balls and countless other fundraising efforts.
Sadly, Iggy passed away in November 2021. His family and friends, including his wife Liz, decided that his incredible fundraising legacy shouldn't end there, and Iggy's Fund was born.
I was fortunate enough to know Iggy through my good friend Adrian Dibb, "Dibby", who was one of Iggy's closest friends, and through Iggy's wife, Liz. But there's another reason why this cause means so much to me personally.
My dad, Nigel Tetley, also died from a brain tumour when he was only 41 years old. I was 14 at the time, so this is a cause that has always had a very personal meaning for me.
So when the opportunity came to run the Great North Run and raise money for Iggy's Fund, it felt like a cause I could really get behind.
I'm also proud to be taking on the Great North Run alongside Dibby and Liz, as well as Neil Copping and Chris Ramsey, all raising money for Iggy's Fund and continuing Iggy's legacy together.
I'm running in memory of Iggy and my Dad, and to help Iggy's Fund continue the legacy that Alan, his family and friends started all those years ago — raising vital funds to support the fight against brain tumours.
Every donation, whatever the amount, will mean a huge amount to me and will help Iggy's Fund continue that work.
Thank you for your support. ❤️
