Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

In November 2020 I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 43. At such a frightening time for me and my family, there were two sources of support that made a huge difference- Parkinson’s UK and the group of close friends I’ve had for almost 30 years.

Parkinson’s held our hand in the weeks and months after diagnosis. They offered advice on work and benefits, how to explain what was happening to my children, and helped my wife find support for carers.

My friends were there for a drink or phone call when times were tough, accompanying me to exercise groups and making me laugh. They helped me to remember I was still me and that I had a lot to be grateful for.

So it wasn’t a huge jump for the five of us to spend some time together raising money for Parkinson’s UK. Exercise is very important for managing the symptoms of Parkinson’s and one activity I get most from is cycling, often along parts of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. Five of us planned to cycle all 127.5 miles of it over 4 days. Unfortunately one of the group has moved to Canada so will match our mileage on an exercise bike or road bike snow permitting.

Thanks for your support!
