Story
I am well known for saying I would never do a marathon, but as I ran every day in 2024 (over 2,100 miles) I'm not in bad shape at the moment. So I thought I'd give this marathon a go, but it is just once and once only! Training has been hard. The event was great, very lucky with the weather, blue sky and light winds. But 27.6 miles was a long way!
The four pier marathon was from Bognor to Brighton (Bognor Pier, Worthing Pier, Brighton West Pier and Brighton Palace Pier) with the route along the English Coastal Path. I thought to use this occasion to also raise some money for a good cause. As it is a coastal run route the National Coastwatch Institute is most appropriate.
National Coastwatch looks out for people in difficulties along the coast, our 2,500 volunteer Watchkeepers maintain a visual, radar and radio lookout from almost 60 Stations.
They report to the UK Coastguard and work with other Emergency Services to help a timely and effective rescue for boaters, kayakers, swimmers, fishermen and hikers.
Here is out local station's website: https://www.nci.org.uk/station/shoreham/
Toby and I visited their a few months ago while out cycling around Shoreham Beach and had a good chat with the Watchman. Recommend popping in.
It is all entirely funded by donations, any amount will be gratefully received and put to good use.
