Story
My names Matthew Thornley and I am taking on the challenge of running 10 marathons in 10 days around Windermere Lake to raise money for the Brathay Trust.
I live in Hawkshead which is part of the 10in 10 route and have lived in the area for 20 years. I used to watch and clap the runners whilst at primary school so this is a big full circle moment for me.
Growing up in the area I have always known about the trust and the 10in10 event. I want to take on this huge challenge and raise money for Brathay because I believe in the work they do. I see the physically demanding event as a small sacrifice if it can help even just one young person have a better start to life. I hope that with the funds raised they will be able to continue to help young people facing difficult circumstances helping them to build confidence, resilience and brighter futures.
In my junior years I was a member of Ambleside fell running club. I completed my first half marathon at the start of 2025 and also completed the 2025 Windermere Marathon. Sport has always been a big part of my life.
I’m looking forward to the training and challenge ahead. I will be posting training updates on my instagram page which is @10in10matt my brother will also be posting on his physio account which is @jtsportsrehabilitation
