Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. We are three school friends who have somehow convinced one another to run 'the Wall' Ultramarathon, in support of 'Maggies'-everyones home for cancer care.
'The Wall'
A 113km ultra across rugged terrain, scaling Hadrian's wall, from Carlisle to Newcastle. The Wall must be completed inside 25 hours. Needless to say, we'll be ready for a pint when we reach the toon. The training plan alone covers 1389km over 26 weeks (including X4 ultras) & will require significant willpower & commitment.
Maggies
Founded by Maggie Keswick Jencks, who used her own experience of having cancer to create a new type of cancer care. Maggie's idea was that with the right support, "nobody would lose the joy living in the fear of dying when diagnosed with cancer".
Maggie's has grown into a network of centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK. Our centres help people to take back control when cancer turns life upside down, with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.
Every Maggie’s is thoughtfully designed to be calming and welcoming; a place to escape from the clinical environment of the hospital. There are no reception desks and no clocks; instead, we have comfy sofas and plenty of time.
The charities long-term aim is to have a Maggie's at every major cancer hospital in the UK. We hope that our fundraising efforts are a small contribution towards that.
Thanks for your support. Every penny counts.
