Story

On 8 September 2024, I'm going to be running for Bliss in the Great North Run.

On 29th May 2023, Becky & I welcomed our son Oliver (Oli) into the world. Although born a healthy weight and a few days late, Oli developed Meconium Aspiration Syndrome (MAS) from breathing in meconium and amniotic fluid into his lungs around the time of delivery.

After 24 hours, his health noticeably deteriorated and he was admitted onto Neonatal Unit at Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where he spent the next 5 days. Oli then spent the following week on the Children's ward at RLI and was treated for pneumonia.

Throughout what was an incredibly distressing experience for Becky and I, the standard of care and service we received was outstanding and Bliss are campaigning to ensure every family and professional receives the support they deserve during these difficult times.

I have set myself an ambitious target of raising £1000 over the next 30 weeks, and I will be posting updates throughout my training as I look ahead to tackling my first-ever half marathon.
