Matt Pilgrim is raising money for Jessie May

Spine Race - Running the Pennine way · 15 June 2025

Jessie May provides nursing care at home for children with a terminal illness in the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire areas. The charity relies on voluntary contributions to fund its service.

Story

The Pennine Way | 10 marathons straight.

11,000m of climbing | Unsupported.

This summer, I’m taking on the Montane Summer Spine Race - a gruelling 268-mile non-stop ultramarathon along the iconic Pennine Way. This is one of the toughest races in the UK but I’ll be testing my physical and mental resilience for a good cause.

Over 11,000 metres of climbing - thats like climbing Everest from sea level. I'm expecting extreme temperature shifts, and a relentless terrain - its going to be fun!

As I battle through blisters, sleep deprivation, and exhaustion over 268 miles, I will be thinking about the strength and resilience of the children and families who inspire this challenge. I will include a link here nearer the time so you can track my progress every step of the way - if you are close, perhaps you can drop by - bring a sausage roll or some chocolate.

Jessie May, a childrens charity.

While this challenge will push me to my absolute limits, it’s nothing compared to the daily struggles faced by the families supported by Jessie May. Jessie May is an incredible charity that provides specialist nursing care for children with life-limiting conditions in their own homes. They ensure families can spend precious time together, creating memories that will last forever.

I know times are tight for lots of people, but dig deep if you can - here’s how your money will make a difference to this incredible charity:

£10 – Provides essential art supplies for a creative therapy session, giving children the opportunity to express themselves and find joy through art.

£40 – Helps fund a dedicated nursing visit, offering vital respite care and emotional support to a family caring for a seriously ill child.

£78 – Supports a comprehensive family care plan, ensuring that both the child and their family receive ongoing care and support..

I chose this charity because they are small, lean and so little of the money gets caught in operational costs.

Thank you for your support.
