Max Orr's Kilimanjaro Trek · 29 March 2024

Many parents need help, friendship and support during the early years. Being a parent isn't always easy. We at Home-Start East Lothian understand this, we recruit and train volunteers to offer support to families with young children. Anyone with an under 5 can ask for free and confidential help..

Story

My name is Max Orr, I'm 12 years old and I live in Edinburgh. I am ambitious, outgoing, love the outdoors, and setting myself goals that push me to my upper limit. This is why on the 29th of March 2024, I'll be travelling to Tanzania, where I have set myself the challenge of climbing Mount Kilimajaro. I am trekking up the 8-day northern circuit route. Kilimanjaro is the tallest free-standing mountain in the world and one of the world's largest volcanoes. It stands at a towering 5,895m (19,340ft) on the roof of Africa.

I am trying to raise money for Home-Start, a charity for underprivileged children in East Lothian. I have chosen to raise money for Home-Start because I would like to try to help them through setting my own challenges, like Kilimanjaro, so that other less fortunate children can have similar opportunities to achieve their own goals and conquer their own summits in life.

I would like to thank Tiso Outdoors for sponsoring me with equipment for my trip.
