Story

For my sins, I’m running the London Marathon in April on behalf of Prostate Cancer UK.

It’s a cause that made sense to me, as my father was diagnosed with it a couple of years ago. Thankfully, he made a strong recovery, and the cancer was successfully removed. However, when I learned it was hereditary and that if a father or brother has had it, your risk more than doubles—I thought I better do something or karma will get me 😁.

I was surprised to learn that the treatment he received was only possible because of his health insurance and wouldn’t have been available on the NHS.

While I’m incredibly grateful he had that option, it made me reflect on how unfair it is that access to lifesaving care can depend on privilege—especially given the taxes we pay in this country.

I’m hoping to raise awareness (and a few squid) so that more men have access to the treatment they need.

Any contribution, big or small, would be hugely appreciated—but no pressure at all.
