The Meath offers a modern, progressive pathway of housing, care and support for people living with epilepsy and associated challenging disabilities. Providing access to a variety of skills training, sports and leisure activities, we enable people to live fulfilled lives as independently as possible.

Story

My Story

About five years ago, my life changed when I was diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy.

Epilepsy isn’t just a medical condition — it reshapes how you live day to day, the relationships you build, and the opportunities you can pursue. Seizures can happen without warning, and while medication helps many of us, it often comes with its own challenges. Living with epilepsy means constantly adapting, explaining the condition to others, and managing both the physical and emotional impact.

I count myself lucky. I am part of the 70% of people with epilepsy who achieve long-term seizure freedom with the right medication. I can drive, work, study, and form relationships much like anyone else — though with lifestyle adjustments. But this isn’t the reality for everyone. Around one third of people with epilepsy live with seizures that cannot be controlled by treatment. For them, independence, employment, and everyday routines are often disrupted by the uncertainty of unpredictable seizures.

Why I’m Fundraising

That’s why I am supporting the incredible Meath Epilepsy Charity in Surrey.

The Meath provides 24-hour specialist residential care, supported living, and day services for adults with complex epilepsy and additional disabilities. It is more than a care facility — it is a community. Residents are supported not only medically, but also through activities such as art, music, sport, and skills development that help them build confidence, independence, and joy in everyday life.

Families gain peace of mind knowing their loved ones are safe, while residents live with dignity, opportunity, and fulfilment at the centre of their experience.

But this vital support comes at a cost. The Meath’s services total £8.8 million per year — or £24,000 every day. This covers housing, food, and medical care, but also the things that truly make a difference: therapies, accessible equipment, creative workshops, community sessions at The Hive café, and transport that keeps people connected.

The Challenge

On 19 October 2025, I will be taking on the Goodwood Motor Circuit Half Marathon.

This is both an exciting and daunting challenge, but one I feel passionately about. Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing my training, my journey, and stories about the incredible work done at The Meath.

How You Can Help

I’ve set myself a fundraising target of £5,000. Every single donation — no matter the size — goes directly towards helping The Meath continue to provide life-changing care and opportunities for people with complex epilepsy.

Together, we can make sure that residents at The Meath are not only kept safe, but also able to live rich, fulfilling, and joyful lives.

Thank you for your support. 💜
