Maximillian Etheridge is raising money for Young Swindon and Wiltshire

Newbury Half Marathon · 9 August 2026

Young Swindon and Wiltshire (previously SMASH) has been mentoring children and young people in and around Swindon and North Wiltshire for over 20 years. We’re a small team of professional mentors working to provide safe spaces and practical support for young people.

Story

In November last year, I had surgery to remove a brain tumour. As a result, I lost the hearing in my left ear, which has been a huge life change and something I am still learning to adapt to as part of my new normal.

I am slowly trying to get back into training while still living with pain in my head every day. Running has been one of the things that feels manageable and has given me something positive to focus on. So, to help me take a step towards feeling like myself again, I’ve decided to take on a half marathon — with my older brothers joining me along the way.

We’ll be raising money for Young Swindon and Wiltshire, a charity that supports young children who haven’t always had the easiest start in life. After everything I’ve been through, I know how much support can mean, and I’d love to help make a difference for children who need it most.

Any donation, big or small, would mean so much and will help us support an amazing cause.
