Bryony & May’s Great Wall of China Trek for Severn Hospice

May Clayton is raising money for Severn Hospice
In memory of David Clayton

Great Wall of China Trek, Beijing · 9 May 2026

Severn Hospice provides specialist care and emotional support for families in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness. All our care is provided for free, but it is not without cost - we have to raise £2 for every £3 we spend. It's because you care that we can.

Story

We’re absolutely delighted to be taking part in the Great Wall of China Trek in May 2026 in loving memory of our wonderful Dad, David Clayton.

Dad passed away at Severn Hopsice Shrewsbury on 1.4.2022 aged 67. After a short illness (Acute Myeloid Leukaemia) he spent his final hours in the best place possible with his family by his side. We will be eternally grateful to the staff and volunteers at the hospice who were kind, compassionate and treated our Dad with the upmost respect and Dignity.

This will be the first time we have jointly done such a big challenge to raise money for the hospice. Dad once said to us “you’ll be ok because you have each other” and that we know to be true.

We think dad would say that we’re mad for taking on such a huge challenge, but something else he often said was “life is not a dress rehearsal” so we must take on this challenge together and not let this opportunity pass us by. He would have been our loudest cheerleader and would want to know all the details of the trip. We just know he’d be so proud of us ❤️

If you are able to give anything to this amazing charity to ensure that other families in similar situations can have the experience we did both Severn Hopsice and us would really appreciate it xx

Severn Hospice is with families from the moment they're referred to its care for as long as they need it, and it does this every day, all day for anyone in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who needs that help.

It does this for them for free, but it is not without cost and it can't happen without you. For every £1 you donate, the hospice will spend 84p directly on care – and use the remaining 16p to make another £1.

Last year, all those individual donations meant the hospice could be there when it mattered for 3,000 local families.
