Story

November is a significant month for child rights with World Children’s Day falling on 20th November. World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s global day for action for children, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

In recognition of the Council's status as a UNICEF Child Friendly City and Community, the Mayor, Cllr Ruairí McHugh, is keen to promote a council wide initiative to recognise and support children in crisis, and invites local schools, community and voluntary groups, and businesses to help raise funds by organising an event or activity in your place of work, community or school.

Fundraising events or activities can take any form such as cookouts, collections, sponsored challenges and no-uniform days. Organisers are responsible for their own events/ activities including obtaining any permissions required, promotion and ensuring the safety of all involved.

If you are interested in taking part in this Mayoral Initiative, please register your event / activity with the Mayor's Office. Details of your event/activity will be made available via the Council's website and social media platforms. All events /activities should ideally take place between the 17-23 November. Where possible, the Mayor will also attend your event/activity.
