100 laps/125 miles for Children's Cancer North

Andrew Beane is raising money for Children's Cancer North

Ultra-marathon · 24 May 2025

We are here to make life better for children with cancer. For as long as families in the North East and Cumbria are affected by childhood cancer, we will invest in revolutionary research to find cures and kinder treatments and ensure those directly affected get the support they need.

Story

On Saturday 24th May, I'm aiming to run 100 laps of my estate which will end up being around 127 miles in total. I'll be starting at 7am and only be stopping to pop home for refreshment pit stops. Not sure how long it will take to complete, but I should be finished at some point on Sunday!

I’m doing this to raise money for Children's Cancer North. A 10-year old girl I know was diagnosed with cancer in November and is receiving treatment at The Children’s Hospital in Newcastle. What her and her family are going through and have been through is unimaginable. Children’s Cancer North help to make children’s time in hospital as comfortable as possible whilst supporting the family too.

To raise money for this fantastic charity, I wanted to do something that would be a massive personal challenge, whilst not having to be a burden to my friends and family members who have previously had to stay out all night looking out for me on the moors (even though I know they'd gladly help out again). So - I've decided to attempt to run further than I have ever ran before, but laps around the estate so I can look after myself.

Back to the why: Children's Cancer North is dedicated to making life better for children with cancer across the North East and Cumbria. Around 100 children from across the region are newly diagnosed with cancer every year and come to the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle for their treatment. Children's Cancer North aims to improve their quality of life through transforming the environment and play experience on the wards, providing access to potentially life saving clinical trials and funding revolutionary research to find more effective treatments.

Any donation would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to join me for a few laps on the 24th - you know where I'll be :)
