Story

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

This is essentially a PTO for non-parent supporters.

Goal: Incorporate elements of successful College and Career Readiness Programs such as, INROADS (inroads.org), SEO (https://www.seo-usa.org/our-programs/), and SLIP (https://www.bgcstl.org/slip/) while leveraging internal programs for our McKinley students to enhance college enrollment, retention, and acquisition of scholarships.

Measurable Impacts:

- Number of McKinley students participating in college access and enrichment programming or internships during the summer in total and by grade level

- Added required career development course for all freshmen where students will complete a resume and personal statement

- The completion and updating of their resume can be used to track summer participation

- Total number of scholarships applied for in total and by grade level

- Total amount of scholarships received

- Prize for seniors in order to get seniors to turn in scholarship documentation.

1) For most scholarships applied for numerically

2) For most scholarship money received

- Working with Going Merry to try to add scholarship assignment and completion metric by students to their service.

INTRODUCTION

The mission is to empower students to identify and achieve their career goals through college and career counseling and development services.

To accomplish its mission, MCLA CCR will provide students with access to career exploration resources, internships, in-school presentations, job shadowing opportunities, and establish partnerships with local businesses and organizations. The CCR will also organize and conduct career development workshops and support the scholarship application process to enable students to pursue higher education in fields related to their career interests.

ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS:

To support the MCLA CCR's efforts, two additional components are proposed:

Providing Business Attire: CCR will establish a program to provide business attire for students who may not have access to appropriate clothing. This program will include partnerships with local businesses and organizations that can donate gently used or new business attire. The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis has expressed a desire to meet future work attire needs of students.

Etiquette Dinner: CCR will organize an etiquette dinner for students to learn and practice proper dining etiquette. The dinner will provide students with an opportunity to learn about and practice professional social skills, such as networking, making introductions, and table manners. The event will be held in partnership with local restaurants and community organizations.
