About Hello World
Hello World is a not-for-profit that offers sustainable and replicable solutions to global poverty by bridging the digital divide.
Hello World's driving purpose is to give every community the opportunity to break the poverty cycle.
How?
Hello World works with marginalised communities in developing countries to build Hello Hubs – community-built, solar-powered, internet stations that get people online, and give children access to world class educational software.
Hello World's mission is to enable hard-to-reach and disconnected communities to connect to the world via the Hello Hubs.
At the same time, they strive to challenge established views about how to deliver aid, connectivity and education. By partnering with communities from the outset and listening and adapting support to the needs of the community, Hub communities direct their own education, skills-building and problem-solving.
Why?
The Internet offers enormous economic benefits and the potential to change lives, enabling education, life-long learning, communication, and entertainment. It also allows communities to make their voices heard, collaborate with others, access new services and opportunities.
Yet, over one third of the world’s population remains totally offline.
And, forty percent of the global population do not have meaningful access to the internet due to: lack of power, slow / unreliable / unaffordable connectivity, or because they lack the digital skills needed to use the equipment effectively and benefit from what the internet has to offer.
Two thirds of the world’s school-aged children do not have internet connection in their homes.
Hello World’s solution is innovative, scalable and affordable. Each Hello Hub provides five interrelated elements designed to bring communities online and give children access to world-class education:
📱Hardware (8 rugged tablets and Hub infrastructure)
📚 World class educational software in local languages
🛜 Free internet
👷 Engineering training for communities
☀️ Solar Power
Hello World currently works in Uganda and Nepal and is planning to expand into several new areas.
Hubs are built where there is a need and where communities have requested Hello World to partner with them.
How is the Hub being used in communities?
• Access to education when there is no school. And in school, to access digital education.
• To start businesses, access information, online learning; to learn to code and/or build websites
• To read and write the news and write blogs
• To connect with family and friends and/or other communities around the world
• To listen to and make music; for entertainment; to play and create games
• Vocational education
• To research their rights
• To be inspired
At M&C Saatchi, we believe more people should know about Hello World and more communities need a Hello Hub to empower life changing education and connection.
Let's make that happen.
