One Team MDL is gearing up for a new fundraising challenge this summer – trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, looking to make a difference in the fight against brain tumours
Brain tumours affect thousands of lives each year - they are not selective of any age, gender or background. Symptoms can appear suddenly and go un- or misdiagnosed, because some are so common in our modern lives: headaches, vision impairment, memory problems, mood swings and depression. From the onset, the illness can escalate quickly, bringing with it rapid deterioration and tragic consequences - for the patients and their loved ones.
This was the experience of Gordon's partner, whose niece Emma lost her young life to a brain tumour not long after her 17th birthday.
That's why Gordon, Aleks, Euan and Lynne are taking on the physical challenge of trekking up the 13,828 feet (4,215 meters) and 26miles of the Inca Trail - and the training in advance of it - to raise funds for research, support and awareness initiatives aimed at combating this devastating disease.
The Brain Tumour Charity is the world's leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally.
The charity is committed to saving and improving lives, moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour.
They're set on finding new treatments, offering the highest level of support and driving urgent change - and they're doing it right now.
"Because we understand that when you, or someone you love, is diagnosed with a brain tumour a cure really can't wait."
Every donation, no matter how big or small, will make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by brain tumours.
We can get there faster as One Team!
