Right - quick context. HPH Accountants (where my wife works) backs a different cause every year. This year it's the Children's Heart Surgery Fund, and the fundraiser is the Altra Yorkshire Marathon - and since their usual runner is out, I've been... volunteered. The asking-people-for-money bit is harder than the running bit, which is partly why this page exists and I'm doing my best not to write the phrase "incredibly close to my heart."

So instead, the honest version: on 18 October 2026 I'll be running 26.2 miles for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund - a charity that supports children going through heart surgery and the families around them. Practical, important work, and the kind of thing that's hard to argue with even if you're a stranger on the internet being asked for £5.

There's a bit of personal resonance too, I've been navigating some health-related stuff of my own over the last year or so. Nothing remotely like what these kids and their families face, but enough to make this feel less like a random charity assignment. I'll be carrying the why with me on the day. A marathon's still a marathon, and there'll be a few miles late on where I need something other than my legs to keep me going.

The goal is £400. JustGiving handles the actual moving-of-money side. If you can spare something, brilliant. If you can't, sharing the page is its own kind of help.
