Story
Me again,
I know I said last time would be my last marathon but I couldn’t resist doing another for this amazing cause.
I will be running for #TeamLibs in memory of my little sister Eve!
Liberty's last wish following her terminal diagnosis was to raise money for research into Ewings Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer.
My story:
In 2015 l was living away from home and had a call from my mum saying Eve had fell over at sports day and was in extreme pain. This pain lasted a few days and finally Eve was blue lighted to Leicester infirmary.
A couple of days later I received the worst phone call from my dad. He told me Eve (my nine year old sister) had stage 4 bone cancer, Ewing's sarcoma.
We learnt very quickly how to look after Eve, what medicine to give her, that most days she would wake up in so much pain she couldn't move. How to support her when she did wake up smiling and asking us to go paint with her in the play room. We would watch her spread positive energy all round the hospital and support any new child that walked into the ward.
We would visit the hospital as much a we could as Eve spent most of her first year there. Eve used to be allowed to have me and Beth both stay with her every now and then which allowed us to have that sister time we were missing. We would watch Rupaul and adventure time (her favourite programs) spent time at the play room and stayed up to the early hours getting told off for making noise.
After fighting everyday for 2 years they told us the list of treatments had finished. Again I was away from home but Eve managed to stay alive for 5 hours so l could have 15 minutes with her to say goodbye. Eve sadly passed away on the 24th of June 2017 at home with her family surrounding her.
A week before she passed she drew a picture of a sun with a smiling face inside with the words "Keep smiling" underneath for my mum. She said "Remember to keep smiling no matter what happens in life mummy" We try our hardest to do this everyday.
Eve had a personality like no other and has managed to raise a ridiculous amount of money for charities. I believe her legacy should live on and this is why I am running the London marathon again! 🫣 If Eve and Liberty can go through what they did then I can run 26 miles.
Eve is a special soul and I'm so lucky to say she’s my baby sister. You may not be here anymore Eve, however I can say that you're still being remembered by so many.
PLEASE SHARE AND REMEMBER TO KEEP SMILING 😊
