Story
My sister and I are taking on a skydive to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity that is incredibly close to our hearts.
This challenge is all for our mum.
Many years ago, our mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Through incredible strength and determination, she fought her way through that difficult chapter of her life. Sadly, before Christmas 2025, she received another devastating diagnosis — lung cancer.
Initially, there was hope. Doctors discussed treatment plans, including chemotherapy and surgery, and we remained positive about the road ahead. However, just a few weeks later, our mum attended an appointment with her oncologist and received heartbreaking news. Further tests had revealed that the cancer had spread to her bones. She was told that her cancer was incurable and terminal.
Like so many families facing cancer, our lives changed in an instant. We have experienced the fear, uncertainty, heartbreak, and challenges that come with such a diagnosis. Throughout this journey, organisations like Macmillan Cancer Support provide invaluable help to patients and their families. Their nurses, advisers, support services, and resources offer practical, emotional, and financial support when people need it most.
One of the hardest parts of this journey has been trying to balance everyday life whilst knowing that time is precious. Working full-time and managing life's responsibilities can make it difficult to create as many memories as we'd like with our mum. The reality of anticipatory grief — grieving someone while they are still here is something we never truly understood until now. It is emotionally exhausting and heartbreaking, especially when trying to manage your own mental health while supporting someone you love through such a difficult journey.
Despite this, we are determined to make the most of every moment we have together. This skydive is not only a way of raising money for an incredible charity, but also a way of doing something meaningful in honour of our mum and the strength, courage, and resilience she continues to show every single day.
By taking part in this skydive, we hope to raise vital funds to help Macmillan continue the amazing work they do. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help provide support to people living with cancer and the families who stand beside them. The money raised will help Macmillan continue to provide specialist nurses, practical advice, emotional support, financial guidance, and essential services for those facing cancer and its impact.
Cancer affects millions of lives, and no one should have to face it alone. If sharing our story and raising funds can help even one family facing cancer feel a little less alone, then it will all be worth it.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting a cause that means so much to our family. Whether you donate or simply share this page, your support is truly appreciated.
