Story
I’m running the London Marathon on 26 April 2026 for Brain Research UK, a charity funding life-changing research into neurological conditions like stroke, dementia, brain injury, and rare diseases.
Why Brain Research UK?
In July 2022, I became unexpectedly unwell. What started as flu-like symptoms quickly escalated. I lost my balance, coordination, and speech, and was hospitalised for two weeks. I was diagnosed with encephalitis, a rare and serious inflammation of the brain.
What made it even more difficult was that I had two little boys at home, just 2½ years and 7 months old. It was a frightening and overwhelming experience, and recovery was slow and uncertain.
I’ll always be so grateful to both mine and my husband’s family, who were incredible during that time, looking after the boys, supporting us and helping me through recovery.
Thankfully, I made a full recovery by October 2022, with no lasting neurological symptoms and I started a new chapter by joining Cooper Parry that same month. But I know not everyone is as fortunate.
That experience opened my eyes to how little we understand about the brain, and how urgently we need more research, better treatments, and greater awareness. Brain Research UK funds pioneering studies that aim to improve diagnosis, treatment, and recovery for people affected by neurological conditions—and I’m proud to support their mission.
