Megan Pantelides is raising money for Group B Strep Support

31 Miles in October · 1 October 2025 to 31 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

This October, run, walk, cycle, swim or mix up to complete 31 miles throughout the month! Every mile you move will help protect babies from group B Strep meningitis, sepsis, and pneumonia.

Story

Emily is walking and running 31 miles in October to raise money for Group B Strep Support. She’ll be teaming up with her mum to complete the challenge, and they would both appreciate your support!

When Emily was born, she became very poorly with meningitis, which was caused by Group B Strep. Luckily, after two weeks in NICU and brilliant NHS care, she made a full recovery. Sadly, many babies do not. GBSS helps to make people more aware of Group B Strep and supports the many families who are affected by it.

——

Group B Streptococcus is the UK's most common cause of life-threatening infection in newborn babies and of meningitis in babies under age 3 months.

On average in the UK, at least

• two babies a day develop a group B Strep infection

• one baby a week dies from their GBS infection, and

• one baby a week survives with long-term disabilities physical, mental or both.

Yet most group B Strep infections are preventable. Group B Strep Support informs families & health professionals about group B Strep to save tiny lives.
