Story
In May this year, we sadly and suddenly lost Jon whilst running the Bristol Half Marathon. His cause of death was Sudden Adult Death Syndrome — completely unexpected, with no warning signs and no identifiable cause.
Jon was the fittest, happiest, and most determined person, with an unstoppable attitude toward life. His kindness and humour has left a lasting mark on everyone that knew him, and was someone I thought I had so much more time and life left to live with.
How lucky are we to have known someone whose presence made such a difference, and whose absence is felt by so many!
Just 15 minutes before Jon collapsed, we saw him as happy as ever, doing what he loved most, so this year I’ll be running the Great North Run (7th September) for both of us and raising money for a charity that’s now incredibly close to my heart - Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Every week in the UK, at least 12 fit and healthy young people lose their lives to undiagnosed heart conditions. CRY works to prevent these sudden deaths by raising awareness, funding vital medical research, offering bereavement support, and providing free heart screenings to detect hidden cardiac issues.
With your support, CRY can continue working with cardiologists and GPs to establish best practices and improve access to screening — helping to protect the heart health of young people and reduce the number of young sudden cardiac deaths.
